Protocol for the manufacture and clinical use of michigan splints in the management of temporomandibular disorders (ttm): literature review

Abstract: Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) represent a frequent challenge, with multifactorial causes that affect the position of the condyle with respect to the articular cavity of the mandible, being considered part of the musculoskeletal disorders. The repositioning splint or Michigan, a removable device widely used in the management of these disorders, stands out for its importance in clinical practice. The main purpose of this study is to develop a detailed protocol for its elaboration in dental laboratories. Through a qualitative literature review, 61 sources were compiled, excluding 37 that did not meet the inclusion criteria, leaving 24 articles and books analyzed. The final protocol integrates from the parallelization of the model to the esthetic finish, serving as a practical tool for training in Dental Mechanics
