Public-private strategic alliances: A fundamental pillar for strengthening primary health care systems

Abstract: Introduction: Strategic alliances in health optimize resources and improve care, prioritizing institutional cooperation based on trust and transparency. PAHO highlights the importance of innovation and collaboration with public and private sectors to address health challenges. In Ecuador, the MSP promotes decentralization through public and private networks, ensuring equitable access. PUCESE contributes with research and community outreach, focusing on prevention and health promotion. In Esmeraldas, health limitations and migration aggravate vulnerability, requiring medical brigades and integrated strategies to strengthen coverage and quality of care in marginalized populations. Methods: The study has a cross-sectional, descriptive approach, anonymized data descriptively analyzed in SPSS 20.7. Results: During the days 28, 29 and 30 of July 2021, 373 inhabitants of three communities received health services: outpatient care (340 consultations), pharmacy (1051 dispensations), laboratory (213) and home care (33 consultations). Taquigue had the highest demand, while Chigue had the lowest. 63% of the beneficiaries were women, predominating in all age groups. The main diseases treated were type 2 diabetes (25%), hypertension (24%) and general medical consultations (18%). Other pathologies included neuralgia (10%), intestinal parasites (5%) and urinary tract infections (4%), reflecting the need for follow-up in chronic diseases and hygienic-sanitary conditions. Conclusions: Strategic alliances allow goals to be met and improve access to health services in isolated communities, strengthening inter-institutional cooperation and reducing health gaps and improving quality of life.
