Abstract:
Cancer was considered a significant challenge for public health due to its complexity and the limitations of conventional treatments. In this context, the use of vitamin C as a complementary therapy was explored, standing out for its antioxidant properties and its potential to reduce side effects and improve quality of life. Preclinical research showed selective cytotoxic effects on tumour cells and synergy with certain chemotherapeutic agents, while clinical studies offered mixed results. Although some trials reported subjective improvements and good tolerance, their efficacy in terms of survival was not confirmed. Finally, it was concluded that more rigorous studies were needed to establish their definitive role in oncology.
