Functional and Semantic Analysis of the Vowel Length in the Rutul Language

Abstract:
The aim of the study is the functional-semantic features of the vowel length in the Rutul language, including the opposition of short and long vowels on the material of nouns, adjectives, pronouns, numerals, participles, and the masdar form of the verb.Methods Descriptive, of binary opposition, phono-morphological, of componential analysis.Results. The multifunctional nature of the vowel longitude in the Rutul language has been revealed. Long vowels are used in word formation as well as in word changing.Conclusions. It is stated that with the declension of nouns, substantive adjectives, demonstrative, determi-native and possessive pronouns, numerals, participle being used independently, as well as masdar forms of the verb, the opposition of short – long vowels in the Rutul language serves as a means of forming opposing lexemes or grammatical forms of one the same word.
