Abstract: With the health care reform of the year 2004 in mind and coming from a multidimensional conception of poverty the article asks for the contribution of the welfare state institutions to the prevention of poverty. To answer the question the interrelation between income poverty and health care is analysed. The undertaken analyses show that the interrelation did increase in the years subsequent to the health care reform of the year 2004. Mit Blick auf die Gesundheitsreform 2004 und ausgehend von einer multidimensionalen Konzeption von Armut fragt der vorliegende Artikel nach dem Beitrag der wohlfahrtsstaatlichen Institutionen zur Armutsvermeidung. Auf der Grundlage der aus der Forschung bekannten Ursachen gesundheitlichen Mangels wird zur Beantwortung dieser Frage der Zusammenhang von Armutsgefährdung und medizinisch-gesundheitlicher Versorgung analysiert. Die Analysen zeigen, dass in Folge der Gesundheitsreform 2004 ein Erstarken dieses Zusammenhangs zu beobachten ist.
