CRECIMIENTO ECONÓMICO Y TRADE OFF ENTRE PRODUCTIVIDAD Y EMPLEO EN LAS ECONOMIAS EUROPEAS

Abstract: El trabajo sostiene que la debilidad de la demanda interna es una variable determinante del lento crecimiento de la productividad del trabajo que han registrado las economías europeas a lo largo de las últimas décadas. Asimismo se constata que el (bajo) ritmo de crecimiento de la productividad presenta diferencias significativas entre los distintos países de la UE-15. Esas diferencias están relacionadas con la distinta evolución de la demanda interna, pero también se explican por la existencia de un efecto trade off entre empleo y productividad.

The work suggests that the weakness of domestic demand determines the slowdown in labour productivity in the European economies over the past few decades. It also notes that that (low) rate of productivity growth presents significant differences between the various countries of the EU-15. These differences are related to the different development of domestic demand, but they are also explained by a trade off effect between employment and productivity.
