Abstract: En este estudio se describen las actividades, medidas en horas de trabajo no remunerado, que realizan las personas de 65 y más años en España, a partir de la Encuesta de Empleo del Tiempo 2009-2010 del INE. Este colectivo de mayores aporta un 21,1 % del total de horas de trabajo no remunerado empleadas en toda la economía (la quinta parte del trabajo no remunerado total). Se estima que el valor total de las actividades realizadas por las personas mayores se puede cuantificar en un 6,59% del PIB a precios de mercado. Este artículo se encuadra en una de las líneas de investigación del equipo de investigación en Género y Bienestar del grupo RIDHEM de la USC que estudia la relación entre los empleos del tiempo, la economía doméstica, trabajo no remunerado y bienestar. Por la naturaleza del trabajo las consideraciones sociodemográficas positivas acerca del significado de la vejez adquieren una especial relevancia.

On the basis of INE’s 2009-2010 Time Use Survey, we describe in this study the activities, measured in unpaid working hours, carried out by people over 65 in Spain. This collective provides the 21.1% of the total of unpaid working hours of the entire economy (one fifth of the total amount of unpaid work). It is estimated that the total value of the activities developed by older people can be quantified as the 6.59% of GDP at market prices.This article is framed within one of the lines of research of RIDHEM, USC Research Group on Gender and Welfare which studies the connections among uses of time, domestic economy, unpaid work and welfare. Due to the nature of the research, positive socio-demographic considerations about the meaning of old age take on a special relevance.
