Universities and Research Expenditure in Europe and the USA, 1993-2003: An Analysis of Countries and Regions

Maria-Carmen Guisan

Regional and Sectoral Economic Studies, 2005, vol. 5, issue 2, 35-46

Abstract: A comparison between University Expenditures on Education and Research shows a great advantage of the United States regions in comparison with the majority of the European regions and countries. Only a few European regions receive enough support for these important activities which have a highly positive impact on socio-economic development. It is important to foster European Economic Policies in order to follow the positive example of the United States in this regard.
