THE DYNAMICS OF REGIONAL GDP IN THE EURO ZONE FROM 1980 TO 2005: ECONOMIC GROWTH OR DEVELOPMENT?

Luca Zanin

Regional and Sectoral Economic Studies, 2007, vol. 7, issue 2, 65-76

Abstract: This paper aims to determine and analyse the typology and intensity of the economic growth through an approach to the structure of the allometric models, previously developed by biologists. It could be important for political decision-takers to know the type of growth since it allows the determination of the dynamics that characterize the areas subject to the study. This study aims to examine the growth in the Euro zone considering the GDP per capita at 2000 prices of every single country in the period from 1980 to 2005. The model permits the estimate of the pattern intensity and typology that characterize the economic growth of every single Euro country with respect to the relevant region.
