Abstract:
This box presents the main results of the 2024 Ageing Report for the European Union Member States. Ageing-related fiscal costs in the euro area are projected to rise by 1.4 percentage points by 2070, increasing from 24.1% of GDP to stand at 25.6% of GDP, with notable variance across countries. These costs are a key consideration in assessing long-term fiscal sustainability. JEL Classification: J11, H55, H68
