No 2008_10, UNECE Annual Report Economic Essays from UNECE

Abstract: This paper examines the two-way interaction between transport systems and several mega-trends that have been and are likely to continue to characterize the world. These trends include globalization, technological change, increased intergovernmental cooperation, the changing role of the public sector, the increased emphasis on security, and the need to ensure that economic growth is more environmentally sustainable. It is stressed that numerous policy responses are needed to address these developments, some at the global level, others at the regional level and some at the national level.
