The rise of fractional authors

Abstract: •Here is the revision Articles published in tourism and hospitality journals over 36years were analysed.•The study examines authorship patterns.•The number of papers has grown exponentially, but production per author has fallen.•Fractional authorship gives the misleading impression of greater productivity.
