The role of interlocking directorates and managerial characteristics on corporate green innovation

Xiaoyue Zhang and Weizheng Sun

Finance Research Letters, 2025, vol. 74, issue C

Abstract: Utilizing data from China's listed companies from 2007 to 2022, this paper investigates how interlocking directorate networks and managerial characteristics influence their subsequent output of green innovation. The results show that direct ties within the interlocking directorate network can improve corporate green innovation, and managers' environmental awareness can strengthen this positive effect. However, structural holes impede firms' performance in green innovation, and managerial myopia strengthens the negative impact. These findings highlight the importance of cohesive networks and environmentally conscious management in green innovation.
