Ye Zheng, Xuhan Bao and Shijie Zhao

Finance Research Letters, 2025, vol. 82, issue C

Abstract: This study examines renewable energy policy–related data spanning 2010–2021 from 30 Chinese provinces and analyzes the policy’s impact of environmental governance performance in terms of policy goals, subjects, and instruments. This study yields several findings. (1) Clear policy goals, high participation of policy subjects, and effective use of policy instruments significantly improve the environmental governance performance. (2) Environmental governance investments further enhance this effect. (3) Heterogeneity analysis shows that this positive impact is more significant in eastern China, populous provinces, and during intensive policy release period.
