Kaizen and culture: on the transferability of Japanese suggestion systems

Abstract: The transferability of Kaizen-oriented suggestion systems (KOSS) to organizations outside Japan is discussed. It is concluded that, although national culture is to some extent the reason for Kaizen's success in Japan, a successful transfer of KOSS is less dependent on an amenable national culture than on the organizational culture.
