•Analysis of hydrogen projects in the EU shows we fall short of 2030 objectives.•Projected hydrogen demand of 5.376 Mt in Europe will primarily be onsite production.•Finland's future electrolyser capacity exceeds 10 % EU share in 2030 as expected.•Hydrogen pipeline plans across Europe do not align with projected demand by 2030.
