Structure and struggle: Implementing a social model of a well woman clinic in Glasgow

Carole Craddock and Margaret Reid

Social Science & Medicine, 1993, vol. 36, issue 1, 67-76

Abstract: Although the values of the women's health movement are widely shared in the U.K., they are little in evidence in the services providing health care for women. This article makes the distinction between a medical model of health care and a social model. It describes a research project which took place in which a well woman clinic was transformed from one which operated on a medical model to one which reflected those of a social model of health care. The article describes the problems which the project team faced in implementing the changes.
