A threshold theorem for the general stochastic epidemic via a discrete approach

Abstract:
Via a refinement of Foster's (1955) result for the total size of the General Stochastic Epidemic, a new threshold theorem is obtained. This theorem appears to be more precise than Whittle's (1955) theorem, at least in the case of many infectives present.
