Dispersion orderings with applications to nonparametric tests

H. U. Burger

Statistics & Probability Letters, 1993, vol. 16, issue 1, 1-9

Abstract: Two orderings of interest for defining nonparametric two-sample dispersion models, i.e. the [mu]-ordering and the spread-ordering, are extended to appropriate orderings for each type of dispersion models according to the role the dispersion centers play. It turns out that the [mu]-ordering is the more adequate one from both the theoretical and the practical points of view. Furthermore, permutation and conditional rank tests are proposed for testing the problems based on the [mu]- and spread-orderings.
