On estimating the slope of increasing boundaries

Byeong U. Park

Statistics & Probability Letters, 2001, vol. 52, issue 1, 69-72

Abstract: In this note, we introduce a simple nonparametric estimator for the slope of a monotone nondecreasing boundaries. The estimator may be used to correct the bias of a well-known estimator of a nondecreasing boundary, and also be used to give some important interpretations on economic systems. Our estimator is so simple that it does not involve any auxiliary smoothing parameter which usually appears in most of the nonparametric function estimation techniques and whose selection is often a hurdle for practical implementation of the nonparametric methods.
