A connection between successive comparisons and ranking procedures

John T. Chen and Fred M. Hoppe

Statistics & Probability Letters, 2004, vol. 67, issue 1, 19-25

Abstract: Let X and Y be the test statistics used in successive comparisons and two-sample ranking procedures, respectively. We prove that the density of X coincides with the density of Y. This is surprising because the two statistical methods appear unrelated. Once the connection has been established in this paper, tables currently computed for successive comparisons can be applied to two-sample ranking procedures.
