A study of long-distance rates: Diverstiture revisited

Abstract:
Long-term trends in long-distance rates in the USA are examined through graphical representation. The rates are ever decreasing and do not show any apparent long-term effects from either competition or the divestiture of the local Bell companies from AT&T. The forward progress of technological innovation coupled with increases in productivity and market demand seems to be the cause of the rate decreases.
