Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice, 2025, vol. 201, issue C

Abstract: Dr. Frank A. Haight established the Journal, Transportation Research (TR), in 1967 to promote multidisciplinary transportation research. As interest in transport-related research grew, the journal was split into two in 1979, one of which was Transportation Research Part A: General, later renamed in 1991 as Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice (TR Part A). Since then, TR Part A has become one of the leading journals advancing research in transportation policy. Celebrating its 200th volume and 45 years of scholarship, this article analyzes the work published in the journal between 1979 and 2025, totaling 4826 manuscripts. We conduct a bibliometric analysis to examine publication trends over time across countries and authors. We then apply a Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) model to article abstracts to identify research topics in TR Part A and their temporal variation. The bibliometric analysis highlights the journal’s growth, while the LDA infers 35 topics that capture its multidisciplinary scope and the evolution of emerging research themes.
