The ARIPO approach to patent search and examination

Abstract:
The article describes the documentation of the African Regional Industrial Property Organization (ARIPO), its search files and search techniques, and the creation and use of the AFPAT (African Patents) Database. The arrangements for performing substantive examination are also described and an analysis is given of the searches performed by, and for, ARIPO.
