World Patent Information, 1990, vol. 12, issue 2, 81-82

Abstract: This article describes how the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) encourages innovation nationwide through an educational outreach program. PROJECT XL encourages the teaching of inventive thinking skills at all levels of the curriculum, and at the same time introduces students and young entrepreneurs to the wealth of information contained in patent documents, and demonstrates the value and use of the patent system. It is estimated that PROJECT XL has reached over 4000 teachers and 100 000 students throughout the country.
