David J. Dickinson
World Patent Information, 1995, vol. 17, issue 2, 112-114
Abstract:
The article describes the development by the EPO, on behalf of the Trilateral Offices of US, Japan and EPO, of a mixed-mode CD-ROM software, i.e. using coded text and TIFF images. The adoption of this format leads to greater data compression and effectively more documents on a given disc, e.g. up to four times as much as on a current ESPACE disc. The most important objective was to ensure compatibility between the new software and both new and existing discs. The software has undergone final qualitative and quantitative acceptance tests and was released in early 1995.
