Abstract:
Over the last decade there has been an extraordinary increase in the internationalization of economy and commerce. This means that companies in Spain and all of Europe will have to face increasingly intense competition. In this scenario, the importance of technological innovation as a result of research and development has established itself as a key factor in competitiveness, growth and employment. Consequently this confirms the promotion of technological development through increasing R&D activities as one of the basic components of industrial policy. Patent information can significantly contribute to the efficacy of research and development expenditure and for this reason, it is advisable to integrate it in industrial policy, which is closely connected to and forms part of the technological policy. For this reason the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM), in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry on which it depends, and other bodies of the Spanish Government, has been carrying out a patent information policy which is giving encouraging results.
