Abstract: Fifty years ago a patent (GB798701) was published for a major improvement in the process of soldering components of an electrical circuit to a printed circuit board. This short communication covers the problem solved by the machines incorporating the process, the details of the process, subsequent improvements, and a brief note about the inventors.
