Online searching at the European patent office

Abstract:
This article describes the organisation of online searching in databases external to the EPO and its integration in the searching activities of GD1. Also, a general outline of the online searching policy of the EPO is discussed. It further contains some general views relating to the training of the search examiners for the use of online searching possibilities. The article gives a statistical review of the use of online searching during the last few years at GD1. Finally, the article tries to define some further developments to be expected as well as the impact of online searching on the organisation of the documentation at GD1.
