Abstract:
This paper acquaints the reader with the use of commercial databases for searching prior art. The terminology and operations that are common among many of the major database systems are described to simplify understanding of database searching. Differences among the database systems are summarized in tables for translating common search expressions from the format conventions of one search system to those of another.
