Cross-host searching in patent-related databases

Abstract:
Crossfile searching, though a major step forward in online searching, is still limited to the files present at one host. Cooperation between hosts, which can lead to the possibility of searching across the boundaries, so-called cross-host searching, is not expected in the near future. A method of cross-host searching of patent-related databases in different hosts using a personal computer has been developed and is described in this paper. Examples of cross-host searching from USClass(SDC) to WPI (Questel) and from WPI (Questel) to Inpadoc(Vienna) are given.
