Abstract: This essay examines the various schemes that literature has proposed to assess the competition in the Mexican banking sector today and discusses the three most recent and comprehensive studies on the subject. After reviewing their analytical frameworks and their complementarities, the essay highlight relevant aspects of the phenomenon in question. The conclusions highlight the benefits of such studies and they points out the difficulties involved in measuring competition in a multiproduct market as banking and, more generally, the financial markets
