Abstract:
Labour needs to look to Europe for lessons on welfare provision, and the political strategies that can sustain the welfare state. The government’s role in the economy has expanded as a result of several, overlapping crises: this provides an opportunity to demonstrate the economic value of social security and welfare provision.
