Abstract:
Major future development is expected for leisure-related services given the marked trends in production systems in advanced societies. In the Basque Country, between the years 1980-1985, the «personal, recreational and cultural services» sector, to which most of these activities belong, registered a higher growth rate than that of the G.D.P. Despite this constant evolution, however, the sector has been the object of very few economic studies. The aim of this article, therefore, is to further knowledge of the sector, if only partially, by analysing those subsectors for which most information is available. These subsectors are: publishing of books and periodicals, cinema projection, video and gambling.
