Abstract: The steel sector, regulated by the European Coal and Steel Community Treaty signed in 1951, has been used as a model for the coordination of national policies in order to build the European Single Market. In this article, Enrique Antolin, President of Altos Hornos de Vizcaya, explains the strategy of the company facing a more and more internationalised market, with fewer and fewer regulations and characterised by larger groupings of suppliers and consumers. Faced with this scenario, the European Community is a prior objective in the commercial policy of Altos Hornos de Vizcaya and a closer relationship with the final user is advocated.
