Abstract:
The first part of this article examines the important trends in the historical evolution in working time, and principally, the events which led to its progressive reduction, from the Industrial Revolution to the present day, both in Spain and abroad. Then Working Time Reduction (WTR) is subjected to a basic economical analysis on how it can generate employment. Some of the circumstances which incide in this matter are also mentioned to give depth to the study and several references are made on the various modalitites WTR can adopt. The last part deals with various general questions which allow us to perceive how WTR is to be incardinated into the global economic policy, to end with measures that can be implemented to increase employment.
