Abstract: The article summarily compares the existing statistical information on the labour market in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country, emphasizing the limitations that exist to analyze the occupational structure with the desirable disaggregation. A set of occupational indicators for 64 occupational groups is then presentes, based on employment variation and various demographic, sectoral and educational features. Finally, the article proposes a classification of the 64 occupational groups in six homogeneous types according to the value of these indicators in the 1991 Population Census and their evolution in 1981-91.
