Abstract:
Recently the growth of European unemployment and wage dispersion in USA has been explained using a common argument. The idea is that there has been a shift in labour demand in favour of skilled employment. This article documents this change for the case of Spain and analyzes its determinant factors. Our results support that technological progress leads to an increase in the employment of skilled workers, but international trade is not a significant factor.
