Abstract:
This article analyses the economic and financial factors that most distinguish between hight profitability firms of the automobile industry and automobile dealers sector from País Vasco and low profitability ones. The information comes from the Annual Accounts that 500 companies deposit in the Commercial Register and the techniques used were Mann-Whitney test and logistic regression. After that, we will examine the most outstanding empirical research on this issue and we will review briefly the characteristics of automobile sector. The main results indicate that size factor is not relevant in both sectors and productivity have a strong relation with the profitability. Furthermore, in automobile dealers sector the most profitable companies have a higher level of indebtedness.
