Abstract:
Noise from traffic road is one of the main environmental problems affecting citizen’s wellbeing. The economic valuation of this externality is complex given its non-market nature. Therefore, in this paper the Contingent Valuation Method is applied in order to obtain the social benefits derived from a noise reduction policy in some municipalities of the Valencia Region (Spain) affected by noise from a motorway. The results obtained show that there is a positive relationship between the willingness to pay values and the noise annoyance perceived by people. The valuation obtained can be useful in applying road pricing policies for the use of transport infrastructures considering its impact on the environment.
