Abstract: The aim of this project is to analyze, using the multiple criteria technique, how competition in the Spanish Manufacturing Industry has developed during the years 1991-2001. The analysis separates the small and middle-sized business from the larger companies. The focus on the analysis is not on competitiveness versus price but rather on broader focus including structural aspects. The results allow us to confirm the following: firstly, during the decade in question, there have not been major relevant changes on the competitive profiles of the Spanish Industrial sectors. Secondly, that the competitive profiles are different according to the size of the companies. And third and finally, one of the factors that is still determinant in the competitive position of the Spanish Industrial sectors is the innovation.
