Abstract:
For nearly 200 years, the modern cooperative movement has known how to adapt itself to the different circumstances our societies have suffered have undergone, keeping alive the values and principles it inspires. This article describes the economic importance of the cooperative movement worldwide, reporting several magnitudes, especially in Europe and Spain. The article examines the statistical difficulties in order to provide reliable and harmonized data around worldwide cooperatives and assesses the impact of globalization on the future of this kind of enterprise.
