(Economic) diplomacy: in need of a new paradigm?

Gorazd Justinek

Chapter 2 in Research Handbook on Economic Diplomacy, 2018, pp 30-38 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter analyses recent developments in (economic) diplomacy when, at a time of globalisation, it is being shaped and co-created by numerous new stakeholders. The author first touches upon the developments of diplomacy in regard to new media and new technologies or iDiplomacy. The author presents the ECONFINBUS diplomacy concept, meaning that today we are not just talking about economic diplomacy, but also stressing the financial and the business part of the process. The author then looks at recent trends in international relations, which are very much defined by economic questions before considering where the future will take economic diplomacy and in this frame bring into the perspective the concept of human rights.
