Abstract:
This Chapter describes the evolution of the restructured electricity market in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) region, which covers most of Texas. It highlights the successes to date and the lessons learned, and is divided into three parts:1. Introduction to ERCOT 2. The Challenges of Creating a Self-Sustaining Power Market, and 3. How ERCOT has met those Challenges.The first part will provide some history, particularly highlighting the unique geographical and jurisdictional aspects of ERCOT, while the second and third parts will describe the challenges and how ERCOT has met those challenges.
