Chapter 9 in A Modern Guide to Creative Economies, 2022, pp 147-163 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: In this chapter, we ask what features of the urban context are subjectively perceived by creative workers as enabling factors or inhibiting for their work. To address this issue, we present a qualitative study based on 210 interviews to creative workers living in a medium-sized city in northern Italy, Reggio Emilia. We add to the extant literature micro, subjective perspective that illuminates the urban dimensions - quality of life, city identity, and networks - perceived as more relevant by creative workers, and how they are evaluated by creative individuals.
