Long-term reflections of a former milk carton kid
Sarah Cecilie Finkelstein Waters
Chapter 2 in Research Handbook on International Child Abduction, 2023, pp 19-29 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Sarah Cecilie was abducted by her father from Norway to the United States in 1974 when she was four years old. Her vivid account of her experience, and its enduring impact, highlights the emotional disconnection, loss, trauma and fear that she (and other abducted children) struggle with. Sarah Cecilie’s abduction preceded implementation of the Convention by six years, but she makes a compelling case for why such a Convention is necessary. She now runs a support group for parentally abducted children called The Kids Link, and is active in various initiatives related to child abduction.
