Chapter 45 in Research Handbook on Critical Theory, 2026, pp 539-547 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
“Technocapitalism” describes an era constituted by a synthesis of technology and capitalism, in which high-tech capitalism, digital and social media, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence (AI) create a new form of economy, society, and everyday life with a transformation of politics, culture, and many facets of human life. Beginning with the high-tech revolution of the Internet in the 1990s, it has come to fruition in the 21st century with digital and social media, virtual reality, and AI in a new global economy and technoculture.
