Ethical value networks of geographical indications and fair trade in Argentina

Navé Wald

Chapter 11 in Ethical Value Networks in International Trade, 2022, pp 181-192 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Geographical indications (GIs) and Fair Trade are two forms of ethical value food networks in Argentina. While GIs and Fair Trade can be considered ethical value networks, there is no certainty or guarantee they will always be so in practice. There is, therefore, much need for a critical examination of such networks, addressing issues of control, participation and governance, among other things. In the Argentinian context, critical attention is devoted to these networks especially regarding the wine industry. The juxtaposed analysis of GIs and Fair Trade in Argentina reveals a number of similarities and differences, as well as directions for further research.
