Bilevel optimization in energy systems
Steven A. Gabriel
Chapter 5 in Research Handbook on Energy Management, 2025, pp 95-122 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter presents an overview of bilevel optimization/mathematical programs with equilibrium constraints in energy systems, principally power, and natural gas. These two-level formulations have been widely developed in recent years due to a combination of changing energy market conditions, advances in optimization theory and computational improvements, and access to data.
