Well-being and the city
Philip S. Morrison
Chapter B.V.3 in Thematic Encyclopedia of Regional Science, 2025, pp 190-191 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Subjective well-being varies within and between cities due to population composition and circumstance. The challenge to Regional Science lies in identifying the marginal effect of city characteristics on well-being of residents. I point to the pivotal role played by the urban labour market in distributing access to amenities, associated disparities in real income and the way they are reflected in highly variable levels of subjective well-being across the cityscape.
